Death and life are in the power of the tongue.

Proverbs 18 says: Death and life are in the power of the tongue.

If people really realized how powerful their words were, they would be careful what they spoke. What we confess can determine our outcome. I will use an example to illustrate what I am talking about. This will show how a positive confession determined the outcome of a situation.

The example I will use is out of the Old Testament. In 2 Kings 5 there is a story of a Shunnimite woman who would feed Elisha when he came through town. She talked her husband into building a room at their home and furnishing it for Elisha to stay when he went through the city. This so blessed Elisha that he asked what he could do for her in return for all her hospitality. Now this woman's husband was getting old and they never had a son, so Elisha told her that in a year she would have a son. Just as Elisha said this lady had a son, and he grew.  One day when he was with his dad in the field, the boys head started to hurt. So the father sent his son to his wife. The mother held her son on her lap and he died. She had her son taken to Elisha's room and placed on his bed, and then sent a servant to get a donkey for her to go see Elisha. Her husband asked her why she was doing this because it was not a special occasion. Now I want you to hear what her reply was. She said "All is well." So she traveled to see the prophet. When the man of God saw her coming, he said to Gehazi his servant, "Look, there is the Shunammite. Run at once to meet her and say to her, 'Is all well with you? Is all well with your husband? Is all well with the child?'" Now look what she said when she answered, "All is well." Now here is a woman whose only son has died but her confession was still, " All is well." We let circumstances dictate what we say, but she refused to do this. She was so sure that the prophet would raise her son that she did not confess that he was dead but rather that everything was all right.

How often do we confess we are sick, instead of saying that sickness doesn't belong to us? How often do we worry when we have a need instead of confessing that all our needs are met? Instead of confessing who we are in Christ we are confessing things the world has told us. So let us start confessing what the Word of God declares about us and start walking in victory!!
